When I decided I wanted to create my own bujo (abbreviation for bullet journal FYI) I had no idea where to start!
For a girl that has been using a planner for basically her whole adult life, I still had so many questions!
What kind of notebook do I need?
What kind of pen do I write with?
What is washi tape?!
So if you're anything like me and don't know where to start, I'm here to provide some clarity! Grab some of my favorite essentials (they are all very budget friendly), plan out some list ideas, & just GET STARTED!
Don't feel like you have to buy a super fancy, expensive journal (unless you want to!)
A 99-cent composition notebook is what I used in the beginning.
I have tried a bunch of different styles of journals, from blank to lined to grid to dot!
Leuchtturm notebooks have been my favorite so far. They offer a ton of room for organizing your lists and they lay flat. Perfect for that Instagram pic you're wanting to take ;)
- The notebook I chose has a durable, hard cover, so I can bring it with me everywhere without worry of bending or damage
- I love that this notebook comes with a table of contents in the front! It allows me to organize the contents for fast reference
- The dotted grid design helps to keep my lines straight
- The Leuchtturm that I chose includes 249 numbered pages and is this amazingly bright citrus yellow color! It makes me smile every time I look at it :)
Whenever I am doing a sketch I always start with pencil first so I can erase any mistakes!
Motivation + Functionality + Cute = WIN!
Which pencil is your favorite? I love what all of them say, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be...
BLACK INK PENS
One of my favorite black ink pens are the Sakura Pigma Micron set because they go on smooth and don't smudge! The dark black ink is perfect for detailed work. Sakura is one of my go-to brands for my journal accessories. From ink pens to gel pens, I love the quality of their products. Today I am writing about the Pigma Micron black ink pen set!
Another brand of black ink pens that I use every single day is Pilot. My favorite Pilot pen is the G2 Gel Pens in the size 0.7mm. These pens write smoothly and have a nice dark black ink. However, they do smudge if you do not allow the ink to fully dry (unlike the Pigma ink, which dry pretty much instantly)
As I mentioned about, Sakura is an overall fantastic company for journal accessories.
I love these Sakura Gelly Roll Gold Shadow gel pens, BUT watch out - they don't dry right away so I have smudged them a few times!
My favorite highlighters are the Zebra Mildliners. I love that these highlighters are double-sided; one side is a highlighter and the other is a thinner tip marker. Also, one of the best qualities of these highlighters is that they do not bleed through the pages. I purchased the set of 5 pastels colors and while I like the colors I do wish they were just a little bit brighter.
Before I became a bujo junkie, I didn't have a clue what washi tape was. So here's the scoop: initially originating in Japan, washi tape is similar to masking tape, but with much prettier designs! additionally, it is made from natural fibers (such as bamboo or hemp) which leads to its strength and durability.
If you aren't using a lined, grid, or dotted bullet journal a ruler is a must! I cannot write straight on just blank pages! Maybe some of you are skilled like that, but not this girl! :p
PEN & PENCIL CASE
A cute case to put all of these accessories in is a MUST! I love my tropical planner pencil pouch by Happy Bag Co.
